What Are The Gifts Of Christ?
As human beings, it is very important for us to recognize and appreciate the value, worth, and preciousness of gifts of Christ. God has never given us anything but he has summed up everything into Christ. In fact, Christ is God’s One Gift. That means salvation is coming into the fullness of Christ is the narrow path. So the gifts of Christ are only the entrance to something larger.
The Lord has granted us the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the form of knowledge of His Son as we think about gifts of Christ.
“As the fullness of God – all that He is and all that He has – dwells in Christ, so the fullness of Christ – all that He is and all that He has – dwells in you” (Colossians 2:9,10a).
“But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. Wherefore it saith, ‘When He ascended up on high He led captivity captive and gave gifts unto men.’ Now that He ascended, what is it but that He also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens that He might fill all things. And he gave some apostles and some prophets and some evangelists and some teaching shepherds.” (Ephesians chapter 4, beginning at verse 7)
The principal; we should follow is that “All Things in Christ.” If we see the full vision then it will be delivered from “things”, from lack, from dissatisfaction, from inferiority, from defeat. The lord has a lot more to gain from us so that is quite opposed to waiting for a future appointment with Him in heaven. So that means; we have to pray for the kingdom of the god and his will to be accomplished.
Christ Is The Blessing Of God
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ (Ephesians 1:3).”
As Christians what we are is based upon our union with Christ. Without him we have nothing, and we are nothing. On the other hand with him, we are blessed with every spiritual blessing. If we think more deeply and the fact is true; then we have very little to ask God for, and very much to praise God about. Most of the time we Christian sought God for things like when we are depressed, we would seek joy, when worried, we would seek peace, when weak, we would seek strength, when angry, we would seek self-control. So it is clear that we seek these things when we are conscious of some lack. So it is clear that we have everything in Christ already. Moreover, it is also possible to seek spiritual blessings from God apart from Christ, or in addition to Christ. Again, it is the preciousness and extreme worth and value of the Lord Jesus that we have in mind here. So what about spiritual gifts? Can we obtain them from the god or we can found them all in Christ? Having the Son we have all that pertains to the Son.
“If God did not spare His own Son, but freely delivered Him over to death on our behalf, how will He not also, with Him, freely give us all things (Romans 8:32)”
God Gives Us Nothing Outside Of Christ
“For God so loved the world that He gave His Only Son. Whoever believes in Him will not perish, but will have eternal life (John 3:16).”
If we closely observe the above verse then it appears that God is giving us a thing called “eternal life”. But that is not all the things this verse means. God doesn’t give us salvation but he gives us His Son as Salvation. So it means that God loves this world therefore it prompted Him to remedy the situation by giving us his only son. So what is the gift from the god, is it his Son? It does not say but it is quite clear that eternal life is not the thing that we needed to begin with; we needed his only son. See the god; he has one son and one gift. Therefore, all who believe in Christ will have eternal life. Many people think that salvation gives us eternal life but it’s not true. Salvation gives us Christ as my Life. There is a big difference between salvation and a Savior; deliverance and a Deliverer; healing and a Healer; redemption and a Redeemer. The main difference is, first is a thing while the second is a person. So it is clear that the difference is incalculable. However, having the Son, we have all.
“It is of God that you are in Christ Jesus, Whom God has made to us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption (I Corinthians 1:30).”
Christ Is Infinite Supply
“The Father gives you the True Bread from Heaven… I am the Bread of Life (John 6:32b, 35a).”
We ask for Jesus to give us bread but the truth is He himself is the Bread of Life. Again, the significance of the Lord Jesus is not that He can give us bread, but that He is the Bread. Now the big question is why we follow god. Is it because he can do things for us or we can enjoy His blessing or He supplies our needs. So what is our choice; do we want gifts or not. If our motivation is for blessings then we will soon be disappointed because how many of us will continue to follow when the Lord fails to respond to us in the way we have grown accustomed? Therefore, if you turn your motivation to Christ then you will find an infinite supply.
“If you knew the gift of God, and Who I am, you would have asked Me for a drink, and I would have given you Living Water… Jesus stood and shouted ‘If anyone is thirsty, come to Me and have your thirst quenched! Anyone who believes in Me, as the Scriptures have said, will have rivers of Living Water flowing from within’ (John 4:10; 7:37b, 38).”
Abide In Him
“Of His fullness has we all received, blessing upon blessing (John 1:16).”
We believe in God but how many of us abide in him. We have to accept that full means everything. If we trust God then we must abide in him; there is no expertness of that. So the main question is what practical application exists for living according to this truth? If we take close look at the reality then we will see, we see what God says, but we also see our situation. We see Jesus, but we also see ourselves. When God says we are complete in Him, we say we are incomplete. God says we are blessed with everything but we say we need this or that. So what is the real problem and whose word is reliable? So the solution to this problem is not to look at you but the Christ. If we do that then we don’t have to worry about the practical side, it will develop of its own accord. The worst thing is many of us have more faith in the Law of Sin and Death than they do in the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ. Therefore, we must ask God for revelation into His Son as well as spend our lives according to the gifts of Christ!
